Uhmm.. my experience is that there are some DVD computer HW that
does indeed depend upon the region code being initalized before
being operational. Also, they have a limit on how many times
the region code can be changed (e.g. 5 times). I know that the
Panasonic/Matsushita DVD in my laptop would not play DVDs until
I region locked it. After the 5th region code change, the unit
becomes locked... only resettable at the factory.. however,
there are some "upgrades" to the firmware around on some of
the lessor known sites (cough) that might free up the region
code issue (voiding your warranty in the process... possibly
turning your DVD unit into a cup holder as well).
