[NTLUG:Discuss] RAS questions

I have inherited an RAS (OS: Red Hat 5.1), on which our tech group wants
the IPs changed - why I inherit it ... well that's a story for some
other time - actually, all I have inherited is the task of changing the
IPs. I have found it to have 9 static IPs in /etc/hosts - one for the
machine, and one each for the eight modems, to be used by the "guests"
as they dial in.
So here are my questions:
(1) It looks to me as if I can reconfigure the NIC for a new IP, and
edit the /etc/hosts file, and then reboot the server and be done - does
that sound right? Anybody know?
(2) The tech group would prefer the RAS to use all DHCP addresses if
possible, but will assign static IPs if I say it has to be - I've never
done a RAS before - does anyone have a clue on this issue?
Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.
PS: I don't think upgrade is an option because no one will spend for a
new box, and I am not going to be allowed to have this one off line for
very long ... silly aren't they ;-)
