[NTLUG:Discuss] Login problem

This one is driving me nuts.

One of my workstations won't login.  This system has Mandrake 8.2, stock 
kernel, and KDE setup with kdm (XDM) Login manager.  This only happens 
1st thing in the morning.  I actually have to reboot before I can login 
to the system through kdm.  I know KDE looks a little like Win9x but I 
don't want the 3 finger solute to be the norm here.  I have a second 
workstation with virtually the same hardware and distribution setup on 
it without this issue.

I can switch to a console (f1-f6) login and do about any non GUI thing I 
want.  If I run an init 3 followed by init 5 my consoles die completely.

Any ideas?
