SCSI stands for Small Computer Systems Interface. IDE stands for
Integrated Drive Electronics.
SCSI is a faster interface than IDE. It allows you to link more devices
onto the "bus." IDE supports a maximum of four. SCSI controllers often
support 15.
SCSI can take more work to set up. We got into some trouble when we
mixed an older hard drive and tape drive with a newer tape drive.
Eventually, we ended taking down the speed of the newer tape drive so it
would match the speeds of the other devices.
But if you find that your PC is "crawling" and have plenty of memory,
sometimes SCSI is the best solution. On many systems, the hard drive is
still the main bottleneck.
You'll probably get a better hard drive. Some SCSI hard drives have been
sold with five year warranties. Three is usually the most with IDE.

"This Christmas season does something to us inside. It sets us on our
feet and gives us a cue as to the way we should go. Our part is to
carry on from there, to carry this spirit which comes to us at this
season into the rest of the year. Then it may be said of us, as Dickens
remarked of one of his characters, 'It was always said of him, that he
knew how to keep Christmas very well.'" --Edmund Opitz
