I generally don't like solicitations in my e-mail either, but this
certainly doesn't fit my description of spam.

Many of the people on the list are interested in free software, and
there is a need for more unity in the movement. I certainly don't want
to discourage people from trying to organize.

Now if he had sent this to a list dedicated to _Buffy the Vampire
Slayer_ or investment, I would call it spam. The author even labelled
the post by including the word "off-topic" at the beginning of the
subject.
