After reading all the other replies on the list I thought I'd chime in
here.. it sounds to me like you've done everything right as well..
except one thing that is nagging me.. what sort of cable are you using
to connect the two machines? I mean, are you using a standard cat5
cable? or is it peer-peer (crossover). If you are trying to connect
two computers to each other directly then you need to use the peer-peer
style. Connecting over a hub you can use regular cat5.
