[NTLUG:Discuss] simple network problem

  Note that on some flavors of linux ethernet drivers, the box must be 
rebooted with the hub attached, or the card stays DEAD and does not 
recognize a plugged in cable.

 I've been able to bring up the ethernet port by doing an

/etc/init.d/ethernet restart

  or something similar.
