I'll have to agree subjectively with this. The P3 Xeon w/512K cache
based boxes I deal with are the fastest Intel based machines I've seen.
So much for the RAMBUS hype. Intel has made getting PIII's very
hard... now we know why.
I haven't done any benches though.
My new AMD MP 2400+ is being built... probably the largest
home computer ever. I'll let you know as things progress.
Lian Li PC-78 SCA
2xMP2400+
1G Reg ECC (Corsair 2x512M using the 64M chips)
6x73.4 Atlas 10K III (possibly RAID10, I will bench for
saturation using RAID0)
2x36 Atlas 10K III
DVD
Plextor CDRW 48x
Onstream (hopefully) 50G or 60G tape unit
Megaraid 1600 Elite w/128M cache (and battery backup)
Dual channel Adaptec 160 SCSI
NO WINDOWS! (apart from VMWare)
It's my first AMD... going all out on this one.
....mostly an e-bay project... total cost on this cheaper
than you might guess.
