[NTLUG:Discuss] Still having identd issues.

Ok, I'm not sure if I actually have pident installed on this machine or
not. When I do a locate pident, I get this returned...

[root at localhost root]# locate pident
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/ChangeLog
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/BUGS
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/INSTALL
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/FAQ
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/KNOWNBUGS
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/README
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/Y2K
/usr/share/doc/pidentd-3.0.14/rfc1413.txt
/usr/share/apps/kconf_update/kmail-pgpidentity.pl

I have tried downloading the pident-3.0.14-8.i386.rpm file from several
places, it looks like it's there ok and when I attempt to install it via
rpm, this is what I get...

[root at localhost i386]# rpm -i pident-3.0.14-8.i386.rpm
error: open of pident-3.0.14-8.i386.rpm failed: No such file or
directory

I've even tried this...

[root at localhost i386]# rpm -U pident-3.0.14-8.i386.rpm
error: open of pident-3.0.14-8.i386.rpm failed: No such file or
directory

When I do a listing, this is what I get...

root at localhost i386]# ls -l p*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 59950 Sep 3 00:00
pidentd-3.0.14-8.i386.rpm

So...what am I doing wrong here? On the web pages I've seen, references
are made to /etc/inetd.conf, which I do not have, a /etc/identd.conf
which I don't have (I do have a xidentd.conf, but it doesn't have the
same entries listed on the web pages) and also a /etc/identd.masq that
is non-existent on my machine.

According to the INSTALL file in the doc directory for pident, it gives
the install directions. I'm assuming you have to run ./configure from
the directory pident is in, but I can't find any pident file to install
from. So...now that you know the big mess I have, what do I do to fix
it? Keep in mind I'm running this on a RH 8.0 box with a PII 466 Mhz
proc, 256 Megs mem.

Thanks again,

Wayne
