[NTLUG:Discuss] XMMS not playing MP3's?

My understanding is that XMMS still plays MP3s but the version that comes
with RH 8.x is 
Handicapped.  What version are you running.  Try downloading the "real"
version and reinstalling.

I downloaded an MP3 from a web site that's a joke...an impersonator
impersonating Paul Harvey selling bongs.  When I attempt to play it with
XMMS, nothing happens.  I click on the play button in XMMS and it pulls up a
window to select a file.  I click on the file, the box disappears and
nothing else happens.  If I click on the play button again, the file select
box comes back up.  What's going on?

I seem to remember you guys talking about some problem with MP3's before.
Will XMMS not play MP3's any more?
