I've missed most of this conversation, but as a recent mySQL to
postgresql convert, I wanted to say that (at least to me), postgres is
much closer to the standard SQL engines out there.

This has eased development on that platform a great deal in that I could
just review my good old SQL book as a reference instrad of tracking down
everything in mysql groups etc.

The one advantage I did find for mysql was that (prior to its
transaction enabled tables) it was faster than postgres. Of course, the
speed difference was minimalized when I compared the amount of effort
for developing mySQL software to the cost of better hardware.

Short story of it is: mySQL has its uses, but overall postgres has
served my projects much better ( and the support available for it is
outstanding).
