I wrote a document a while ago for connecting to my company.   The vpn
works much better (faster and more reliable) under linux than windows.   I
don't recall any part of it that expected some RedHat configuration.  The
only bad news is that it works only on the uniprocessor kernel.  After the
vpn connection is established, we then have to log in to a locked down
windows remote terminal server!  grrr.  But fortunately , Citrix's winframe
linux client can do auto-login.  The whole process takes less than 10
seconds to be connected.
