[NTLUG:Discuss] Problems installing RH7.3 on a compaq 1600R SMP

I am trying to install RH7.3 on a compaq 1600R dual 400Mhz 512MB ram, 5
disk raid 5 array.

The install gets to the anaconda, and hangs with the unable to probe
after the monitor type.

I have gone through the hints I have found via googling...

1) disable the onboard nic
2) boot with: linux nousb
3) boot with: linux skipddc
4) boot with: linux mem=512M noprobe

All result in the same hang in the same place.  Someone has to have
installed RH7.3 on this type of machine.  While I don't want to I may
have to move back to RH7.2 or RH7.1 as 7.1 was previously installed on
this machine with no problem.  I don't think 8.0 is ready for a
production machine...and RH7.3 has never given me any problems and is
stable as a rock!

Any hints, pointers, etc are greatly appreciated...
