This is about to be the end of me!!!

I picked up an HP Deskjet 6122 printer and I can't get the hpijs driver 
to work.  Mandrake 9.0 using CUPS.

I don't if anyone has been following HP Linux support lately but it is 
improving.  They released a printer driver (hpijs) that is OPEN and is 
suppose to work great.

On my system I can print with other HP drivers (greyscales only) but the 
hpijs just won't talk to the printer at all.  I do find a message in my 
cups log telling me that the backend did not respond after 30 seconds.

I'm pretty sure it's a problem where I'm not going through parport0 and 
I can't find the docs that tell me how to switch from lp0 to parport0. 
If I do an "rmmod lp" and then start windows (inside vmware) with LP1 
attached to parport0 I can use the HP Windows tools to print in color 
just fine.

Any pointers to either docs or the fix would be nice.
