Just a few things on News -vs- email.
I've been using the NNTP version of the discuss list
for several days now. Seems to be working well. There is
a little bit of a threading problem that happens with
mail<-->news gateways. I think that the issue happens
when people email a reply to a news created posting.
The news-reference-headers don't get done, so it looks
like a reply is a new thread instead of a reply. I REALLY
encourage everyone to use the News server post and reply
so that the threading problems are reduced.
I just went into the email preferences for the mailing
list (https://ntlug.org/mailman/listinfo/discuss) and
disabled mail delivery.
I like the pan news reader. This is a gnome ( GUI ) based
news reader. The 'latest' code only works with Gnome2.
RH 8.0 comes with Gnome2 so it works nicely together.
You can get the latest copies at http://pan.rebelbase.com.
Earlier versions work with pre-gnome2 things. The latest
and greatest version ( Gnome2 only ) has 'scoring' so you
can list works like LINUX, SCSI, RackMount, etc and
have the messages scored. You can then sort or pick or
highlight based on the score. Pretty useful feature.
