Try rebooting the machine... fsck has known to be having issues with undending loops. This is rare though. There was another LUGGER facing the same problem on one of my other lists.
Thanks,
Harshal.

Attempting to install RH 7.2 with ext2 on a Compaq Deskpro with a P-II
400Mhz, 384 MB memory, and 2 - 60 GB IDE hard drives (yes, you have seen
this machine listed here before - may have a hardware issue).
My question today: Does it seem unreasonable for the install to still
be checking for "bad blocks" after more than 18 hours? The hard drive
access sound being emitted from the machine (if you get down close to it
and listen) is a slow, rhythmic, repeating pattern, much of like a
sleepy cricket. The hard drive light is continuously lit, and the mouse
will still move the pointer.
