I'll tripple check that. I don't think /dev/modem is being hooked to
something else,
but rather something else is being hooked to /dev/modem, if that makes
sense?
I tried connecting first using kppp, did the configuration, ran the "Check
modem"
test, and he ran fine, said he was connected to /dev/modem. But then he
couldn't connect when I tried to dial out, and the error code given (which
I have at home, don't recall right now) seemed ambiguous to my brain.
That's
when I revved up wvdial. I let wvdial setup his own configuration by way of
its
automated testing, then peeked at the config files, checked pap-secrets,
etc.
The config file said he was going to /dev/ttyS1. But no connect. So I also
manually edited his config file to point to /dev/modem, tried again, still
no workey. I dunno.
Thanks for the reply. If ok with you, I'd like to hang onto your email
address and
ask you maybe next week about your experience installing SuSE on the
latitude. I tried installing 8.1, ran into a video problem which looked
like it
was trying to fry my screen, tried a buncha different config settings, but
no
soap, so I backed out and went mandrake.
