Except that VMWare is probably the best answer.  If it's *really* important to 
you, then it's well worth the $299!  I'm glad I bought it (except that I run 
win98 under Linux).  BTW, I saw an offer for VMWare that if you bought a 3.x 
version now, you got to upgrade to 4.0 free when it comes out.

You might want to check out Knoppix then.
