If you have a keyboard with extra buttons (like transport control,
calculator, browser control, volume controls, mail, etc.) then you might
like to look at linEAK. (lineak.sourceforge.net)

I tried it last night and it makes it much easier to setup those buttons.
Now I can lauch evolution just by hitting "Mail" or kcalc just by hitting
"Calculator".

For mine I have setup the transport controls to work xmms, the "media"
button to eject my CD, the browser buttons to call up and work Opera, the
volume controls work the mixer (very nice!), "My Computer" calls up gmc on
my home directory, etc.

I never put my machine to sleep, so I'm trying to think up something good
for the sleep button.

There are other ways to configure the keys, just none so easy. It even has
an X program to help you, and they have a KDE utility for it.

I saw another program like this out there at some point, that looked
promising...it would even go so far as to overlay the green "Volume |||||"
or "Mute" messages on the display, but I could never get it to work. This
one worked "out of the box" so to speak.
