I have bought 4 motherboards at Fry's, and 4 times I have had to exchange
them for another because they were missing something (1 time) or did not
work (3 times). I will not buy a motherboard there again.
I have problems with the cheapest memories. Not problems with the second
cheapest.
I bought a really cheap ($29) Polaroid CD-RW drive. Some days the computer
sees it, and other days it is not there.
I have not had problems with disk drives.
I did buy some really cheap CD-R disks. When I got them home I saw they
were completely blank on both sides, so you could not tell what side was up.
So you had to be careful taking them off the stack that the did not get
turned over or they would not work. :) And mark them as soon as they are
written.
I have not had problems with other components like Serial cards, Ethernet
cards, hubs or switches, or monitors. So my advice is to be careful. Since
I live in Plano, it is too far to always return stuff, so there are types of
items I will not buy from them ever again. (like motherboards).
