[NTLUG:Discuss] VNC speed through an SSH tunnel

Howdy,
   I got VNC running to a Pentium III-933Windows 2000 VNCserver from a
Celeron 500 SuSE 8.1 VNC client. I was surprised at how much slower the
connection was than when I ran it without the tunnel. I do have
compression turned on. To others that have done this, I have a couple of
questions.
   1. Do I just have to live with the big performance drop or are there
some tricks I should try?
   2. Is my performance limited by the Celeron 500 that is
encrypting? Does the speed of this machine make a big difference? If so,
I'll edd more hardware. If not, it would be a waste of money.
Thank you,
Ralph
