Folks ... I had hoped to write up another one of those SB1579 Dispatch
newsletters, but I'm running around crazy and it just ain't gonna happen.

If you haven't heard, SB 1579, the Texas Open Source bill is scheduled
for hearing tomorrow in front of the Senate Committee on State Affairs.

Here is the meeting schedule:

So, in lieu of a newsletter, I'll attach a copy of the message I just
distributed to the sb1579 at effaustin.org mailing list:

I'm still working on putting together a slate of witnesses for tomorrow's
hearing on open source. If you would like to testify, it would be helpful
if you could drop me a line to let me know, so we can be reasonably
coordinated among ourselves.

We don't need a lot of oral testimony (more is actually NOT good, it
just irritates the senators) ... but we could use another couple more
killer witnesses. Please contact me if you have any suggestions.

There are additional ways to help:

o Give written testimony. You will be able to sign a witness card,
turn in your statement, and choose to hang out or leave. If you
       do this, bring 10 copies.

o Sign a card. You don't have to submit anything. You can simply
go on record as for the bill, and then choose to hang out or leave.

o Attend the hearing. Get to watch the sausage being made. Just
be prepared to spend the day. (The spam bill I testified on
yesterday was scheduled at 9am and I spoke about 10pm.)

The hearing is scheduled tomorrow (Thursday) for 8:30am in the main
Senate chambers.
