[NTLUG:Discuss] RH 8.0 crontab won't work - crond is running

On my RH8, I have vixie-cron, crontabs, and anacron installed.   I'm not
sure what runs /etc/crontab, but that's good for periodic system
maintenance.   I ran "crontab -e" and entered this:

* * * * * date > /tmp/cron-tick

saved the file.  crontab wrote the file to /var/spool/cron/root and updates
the daemon.  I see the tick file updated every minute.

so, works for me.
