[NTLUG:Discuss] RH 8.0 crontab

Hmm...this stinketh familiarly...

I run a heavily patched Mandrake 8.1 & have had problems getting crond to
actually run my entries in the past.

I had a script that would run fine from the shell, but never seemed to run
from cron. /var/log/messages reported that cron was running it, but it
wasn't running because what it was supposed to do never happened.

I fussed with explicit path names for everything, etc., etc., etc. in both
the script and my crontab. Then magically, it started working, and I don't
know why (but I haven't touched it since!).

I'm speculating that it is some kind of whitespace or line termination
issue in certain versions of crond.
