[NTLUG:Discuss] lost mail problem

I am recovering from having to wipe the disk and start over - running RH 
7.3, Mozilla 1.3.1 - and I need get my old mail some how, though not 
necessarily into the Mozilla mail client.  I did save the files, and so 
I can read them as text, but the major problem at the moment is encoded 
attachments, such as Excel Spread Sheets and the like.  Is there anyway 
to unravel them?
