[NTLUG:Discuss] cdrom will not remain stowed

The lights went out an hour ago and now my cdrom (/mnt/cdrom) refuses to 
stow.    It ejects on boot.
If you push it in it seeks and ejects.   I have had this before and I 
thought I fixed it
by disconnecting the device booting, shuting down and reconnecting. 
 This time
it is stubborn.    It is not mounted.    It was, and it does the same 
thing mounted or not.
It is a Verbatim 24x10x40x

Anyone know the secret?
