Most window managers have a bunch of different modes to choose from.
You appear to have 'focus follows mouse' - the other common ones are
'click to type' (where you have to click in the window to make it be
the active one - it then stays active no matter where the mouse points
until you click on another one) - and the one I use is the one KDE calls
'lazy focus follows mouse' - where the window the mouse is over is the
one accepting keystrokes (no clicking required) - but if you move the
mouse out of the window, it continues to accept keystrokes until the
mouse is hovering over another window - so if the mouse strays out
of the window and is over the desktop background, you can still type.
I don't know what tool you'd use to change blackbox's default though.
