[NTLUG:Discuss] debian install problem

I am trying to install Debian 3.0r1 on my system. I am trying to install
using the bf24 kernel as the older 2.2 kernels have a problem with my USB
mouse and keyboard. The problem is the kernel locks access to /dev/hda and
instead sees the hard drive as /dev/ata/d0p1 and /dev/ata/d1p1. Any ideas on
how to get around this? One thing that I was thinking of is the on board
Serial ATA RAID could be causing the problem but it is disabled.

The system configuration is as follow

Intel D845PEBT2 Motherboard

2.53 P4 CPU

512MB Ram

20 GB Western Digital Hard drive as master on the primary IDE

30 GB Quantum Hard Drive as master and the secondary IDE

ATAPI cdrom as slave on the secondary IDE.

Thanks

Eric
