[NTLUG:Discuss] Notification of downed server?

I was curious as to what, if anything others do about being notified if
the servers go down due to power outages etc. Living in Texas during
spring we have many a thunderstorm and blackouts for short periods of
time. What type of technologies are available to notify the admin when a
server goes down? All of our servers are on battery backups so is there
a method, maybe emailing me that the server is on battery power and will
be going down?
