Howdy,
   I think he has got it.  On both of my systems with LCD monitor, I had to 
lower the refresh rate to 60 Hz.  Maybe some LCDs do better, but not 
mine.  One LCD will display a message saying the refresh rate is out of 
range, but the cheaper one just stays blank.
   CRTs could be ruined by running at too high a refresh rate.  I have 
never heard of anyone damaging an LCD monitor this way  They just don't 
work.  The mecahisms are completely different.  I don't see how you could 
damage an LCD monitor this way.
