I bought a Cisco uBR924 on eBay for about $50. It took me a while but I
finally got it to work on Comcast's network but so far only in bridging
mode. My first attempt at using the dhcp-NAT didn't work - but I
haven't given up yet.
My second choice was going to be a 3Com Office Connect which also has
some additional features like NAT that standard modems don't. It can be
had on eBay for $15-20. I don't have any experience with it but,
something to consider.
However, in retrospect I think it may be better to use a standard
bridging modem and do your NAT with a linux box because the cable modem
can be accessed in some ways by the cable company and they have to make
certain restrictions in order to comply with DOCSIS. eBay is a good
source for standard modems too.
BTW, if any one is considering signing up for cable modem service,
Comcast has a special right now, $20 a month for the first 6 months!
(I'm really bummed I just missed that one :( You can also get a modem
free (after rebates) at Circuit City with new service. I defintely
recommend getting your own modem to avoid the $3/month fee.
Hope some of that was usefull to someone,
