I agree to your point MadHat. That's exactly why I said 'You might or
might not agree to this'.
IMHO, If you are starting as a complete newbie with C programming, I
wonder how will you figure out things on your own without referring any
textbook or attending any class!!

Everyone learns differently.  What works for you may not work for
someone else.  I can't learn from reading a book.  I can learn from
listening to someone or just figuring it out on my own, but text books
are a waist of my time and money (reference manuals are a different
story all together).
