I've got the Epson Perfection 2450.... I use it USB just fine with
Linux. The negative/film support is ok. But most will tell you that
the results of scanning an actual photo is usually better than
using the original negative.... YMMV of course. Has to do with the
negative holder and the fact that it adds a bit of distance between
the negative and the scanning face.
I've used the proprietary Epson drivers/utilities as well as generic
sane based ones. Can't tell you which works better off the top
of my head though... I think the Epson stuff did, but frankly I haven't
used it under Linux in a while (the scanner is actually connected
to my wife's computer at the moment).
