[NTLUG:Discuss] Updating RH 9 via sudo?

Has anyone installed RH9 recently?  The reason I ask is that I am trying
to track down what may be a bug in the latest glibc update or sudo.

1) installed RH9 fresh
2) configure sudo
3) download all the current RPM packages (never use up2date)
4) using sudo installing all the packages.  When the glibc package
updates it fails, leaving the system unusable...

Over the weekend I reinstalled a few different times to try and track
down the conditions that are present, and while I haven't verified this
yet, I think sudo is the culprit.  Tonight I plan to verify this by
doing another install and updating via root directly.  I just wanted to
see if anyone else had seen anything else like this.

This does concern me because I have always used sudo to update my
systems - and if its the reason for the failure makes me very shaky -
because a lot of data could be lost.  Luckily on the system that I
discovered this on had all the data on a separate drive.
