Xine works well, I would just remove any existing xine pkgs and roll your own
from www.xinehq.de  There are many front ends to chose from.  The libraries give
most codecs required, then select a frontend.  the gxine front end includes a
decent native mozilla plugin (remove any movie entries from pluggerrc), but
there are other frontends that are prettier or offer more functionality... The
frontend is mostly subjective.
