There is a pretty good amount of info out there on tuning linux, and it really
depends on what you are tuning for.  For a good high level place to start:
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-adfly.html This gives info
on realtime kernel tuning using /proc, and is a fairly good intro to it.  For
more in depth, you might want to look through the VM documentation, etc.
