Does anyone have any experience with the new Serial ATA ( SATA )
drives and linux?

I have a box with two of these in them. There is some support
for SATA drives in the 2.4.21 kernel, but I don't know how
well they have been tested. I'd hate to use them and find
out that they will just trash the data on them... I'd hate to
not use them when I could.... So.... does anyone have any
useful info on these with reguards to linux?

I compiled a new v2.4.21 kernel on my RH9 box and the drives
show up as:

    ide2: BM-DMA at 0xdc00-0xdc07, BIOS settings: hde:DMA, hdf:pio
    ide3: BM-DMA at 0xdc08-0xdc0f, BIOS settings: hdg:DMA, hdh:pio
hde: Maxtor 6Y080M0, ATA DISK drive
hdg: Maxtor 6Y080M0, ATA DISK drive
hde: attached ide-disk driver.
hde: host protected area => 1
hde: 160086528 sectors (81964 MB) w/7936KiB Cache, CHS=158816/16/63, UDMA(33)
hdg: attached ide-disk driver.
hdg: host protected area => 1
hdg: 160086528 sectors (81964 MB) w/7936KiB Cache, CHS=158816/16/63, UDMA(33)

Thanks - jack
