Not meaning to be snide, but Linus is not Windows.
The distribution version, or distributor, is not generally related to
driver support, it's the kernel. If a 2.4.21 kernel supports a driver
then all distributions using a 2.4.21 kernel support it. There are
exceptions or course.
Best example I can give is my recent issues with the nforce2 chipset on
an ASUS A7N8X MB. The 2.4.19 kernel did not support the chipset but
2.4.21 does. Now that I've upgraded to a distribution that has 2.4.21 I
can get this board to work.
OBTW, I may have forgotten to followup on the A7N8X problems, sorry.
I've found the issue to be the Nvidia graphics driver combined with this
MB. When I switched from the nvidia driver to the nv XFree86 driver my
problems vanished. I like the nvidia driver and I think it is a good
solution but I'd really like to see them stop playing these games with
ASUS (and others like ATI) compatibility. They're acting a little too
much like M$!!
