Then you are doomed.  If you have:

   A posts a message
   B replies to A (quoting him)
   C replies to A (quoting him)
   D replies to C (quoting both C and A)

...you cut to the chase and read D - and you completely miss the crucial
comment made by B.

Hence it's silly to try to leave a complete paper trail in every post
(either top or bottom posted) because you STILL have to read every
previous post if you want to know what's been said on a topic.

I only ever quote just enough so it's clear who I'm replying to and
what the immediate context was.

Jeez - this is a stupid debate.
