My best guess is they are throwing all their eggs into one basket 
(because they only have 1 egg)  This is a win or die situtation for SCO, 
they need the money to pay for all the litigation.  If they lose they 
will just file bankruptcy, but I don't think that will cover the check 
they are writing if they do fail to win this suit.  ANAL, but  I suspect 
that if that is the case; criminal action will be taken, and retribution 
will be taken beyond the walls of SCO. Nothing more than I would love to 
see the Canopy Group go wayside due to legal backlash climbing the chain 
of ownership.

Anyway - Go RedHat!  Go SuSE!
