Depending on the model, it likely has a mobile P4, which is not a mobile 
P4-M.

Dell Inspiron 8500:
Mobile Intel® Pentium®  4 processor-M at 2, 2.2, 2.4 and 2.6 GHz

Dell Inspiron 5150:
Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 processor at 3.06 GHz with Enhanced Intel 
SpeedStepTM technology1

Check the Intel pages for more differences on them, but I think a big 
one was power consumption, IIRC.
