[NTLUG:Discuss] wet11 & Linux

Just purchased a Linksys wet11 ethernet wireless bridge. Tried to
connect to it via the browser at 192.168.1.255 as per instructions on
pdf file on cdrom, but no luck. It appears to be working, according to
the lights lighting up. When I plug it directly into a NIC, it lights
up and so does the "Lan" led on the wet11. When I plug it into a hub,
(and switch from X to II on the back as per instructions), it lights up
on both ends as well. It appears to be working, but not able to find
anything there. Cannot ping it, I've pinged the network, (broadcast:
ping -b 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.255) and still nothing but my existing
devices, the wet11 does not show up as 192.168.1.255 or anywhere else
that I can see.

But, I'm wondering... I've never assigned an IP address that high
before and don't know if Unix networks go up to 255, I just kinda
assumed it was the broadcast address... Is that so? Or am I wrong about
that? ( I say that because when you ping 192.168.1.255, it appeas that
most Lnix systems assume your pinging the network and will ping all, you
get responses from all devices in the 192.158.1.x subnet. )

I looked at Linksys' knowledge base support page, (
http://www.linksys.com/support/support.asp ), but did not find wet11
listed in "Search by Product" field.

Any help or tips most welcome,
Thanks in advance,
Terry
