"Freevo and MythTV"? If you want a Tevo. you should go by one. (Let
your computer be a computer and your TV be a TV.)

I agree, apt-get's pretty cool.

"altogether now, './configure; make; make install" ... yea, what's so
hard about that?

"Some apps put the bits in /usr/local/. Others put them elsewhere. But
there's little consistency on this point, and dammit, there needs to
be..." When these directories are probably already in your path, I
really can't see what the beef is on this one.

"Linux community ..... They need each other to be successful." I think
I agree with this comment.

"package developers, distribution makers and driver writers --need
to..." I dono about you, but my hat's off to all you developers and
driver writers, etc...
I think they're doing a GREAT job. Keep up the good work! [ my 2 cents ]

"My Linux application installation should just work." Yea, mine too,
but then about 99 percent of 'em do anyway, so, again, I can't complain.
It's good... and getting better. But maybe I'm just an incurable
optimist. ... Maybe so, maybe no, all I can say is I've got a
wonderful system here that works great, it's way more versatile and
powerful than my MS-Windows neighbor, and if I had to fork over the cash
it'd take to build up a MS system that has all the capabilities I have
on my Linux box, I'd choke like a big dog.
[ my 2 cents ]
