I have two Dell servers running raid 5. (PowerEdge 4400 and 1500SC)
Although nether are running Linux. :(
Mine are running in a basic configuration and I haven't had any problems
with them. (the 4400 for 3 years now)
As for your reluctance to use Dell. I completely agree about there
desktops, but I have 3 Dell servers and they are my first choice for
Intel base servers. (without factor installed OS of course)
Of course this is just my opinion. :) I'm not sure what would be
causing your machine to slow down. Are you sure it's the raid that is
causing the slowdown?
