When you have to communicate with a system that does NOT have sftp
capability, like some embedded systems, old os's that are used in
dedicated systems, ROM programed devices or systems that have ftp
only.....
Remember, updating systems is fine for most cases, but impossible in
others. In some cases, it is totally necessary to use old technology
because of the application or environment. MS-DOS is still used in many
embedded systems due to size constraints; 9 track reel tape is still
used in high vibration environments where disks and data cartidges
cannot opperate, ferrite bead magnetic core memory is still used where
radiation fluxes are so high as to wipe out SRAM and DRAM (nuclear power
plants, MRI, CAT Scan, radiation cancer treatment, space), certain types
of vacuum tubes are still used as semiconductor devices cannot do the
task (10Hz 1MegaWatt transmitter, frequencies above 20GHz requiring
power, low noise amplification of weak signals,....).
Does this help?
