[NTLUG:Discuss] Darl McBride to keynote 64-bit conference

As might be expected, the enterprise seems to be strictly commercial,
and therefore of questionable value. I noted only a few
addresses/events claiming "open source" as a topic, and that is to be
expected too, since the supporters of the whole thing hope to turn a
buck on their investment in this thing somehow. I wonder that someone
hasn't thought of "hosting" a totally low cost (hopefully free) "Digital
Conference" as an alternative to these time consuming, travel intensive,
over priced, events? I mean, what do we have the Internet for after
all, if not to share information. Speech, address, and class formats
could be video, text, presentation format, or PDF, to name only a few.
Responses and questions could be monitored, archived, and shared, etc.
Is that a complete non starter?
Anyway, my non support for the event is that I shall not attend - not
that anyone will notice.
