The 4GB limit is an issue with 32bit addresses (4 bytes).  An address is 
a linear offset from 0 so 4294967296 is the largest offset that a 32bit 
address can reach.  IIRC, this was resolved in the 2.4.0 kernel and 
virtually all distributions released it?  Or is this only true with 
distributions that don't support x386 any more?
