Do you have your dir mode set to group rws or rwx?  Needs to be rws. 
Did you set group and owner to the same as http daemon?

Mine is in /etc/smrsh

What version are you running?  I'm on 2.1.1 and I have to copy the lines 
mailman gives me into aliases.  The script did not do it for me.
