you posted the original, a brief reply:

I've never done it with a laptop, but idea:  copy the CDROM driver to
your HDD; then modify your autoexec.bat to load it, and point it to the
CDROM which is hooked up.

My original Win 95 autoexec.bat:
LH C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\mscdex.exe /D:TEAC-CDI /M:15 /L:R

(In this case, for a TEAC drive with some TEAC-specific parameters).

Have not done this in awhile.  But, this is what I had to do with a clean
HDD when reinstalling the monopoly OS.  

And BTW, does anyone know anyplace on the Net which sells (a la
CheapBytes) already-prepped CDs of the GPL/ download version of Suse?
