[NTLUG:Discuss] where is lilo

I have a persistent Lilo that I need to get rid of <long story omitted> 
- there is no OS on this machine, and yet when it attempts to boot the 
Lilo screen appears.  Does anybody know how to get rid of it?  I really 
need to start over completely fresh, and there is no data on the hard 
drive that needs to be saved.  If it makes any difference, this is a 
laptop with the floppy and CD as separate devices sharing a single bay.  
Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.
